My friends call me "Chris." I was first licensed as a Novice in 1966 while stationed with the United States Air Force at Glasgow Air Force Base, Montana. My call then was WN7DZR. At that time you could only hold a Novice license for one year. I was shipped to Vietnam in 1967 for a year and my Novice license expired while there. A later change in the FCC regulations allowed prior Novice class licensees to retest for the Novice. In 1970 I again became a Novice with the assigned call of WN4NXS. Later that year I upgraded to General Class and became WB4NXS. Over the years I have enjoyed different facets of ham radio including, QRP, RTTY, PSK 31, Traffic, VHF and emergency communications. In 1998 I became interested in DX and upgraded to Extra Class which at that time included the 20 wpm code test. I am now more active and in August 2010 built a homebrew Broadband Six Band Hex Beam. I used most of the construction techniques presented by K4KIO in his QST article. The beam works great, with SWR below 1.2 on segments of all six bands 20 through 6 meters. QRP is also a lot of fun and I use a Yaesu FT 817 with the HEX Beam and find it amazing what 5 watts or less will do.
My current station consists of a Ten Tec Omni VII
