I started with radio as a SWL. As a child I used the family Silvertone up-right radio. I made a long wire antenna by unwinding the wire from an old coil. When I was in the Air Force I had a roommate who was a Ham. His name is Bill Lisk and his call is N5EEC. He took me to the MARS Station and showed me around. After the Air Force I worked over seas. I used a borrowed receiver to receive English broadcast to keep up on the news. Again my path crossed Ham Radio. A co-worker heard me mention Ham Radio and said he could help me get started. He became my Elmer. His name is Donn Fisher his Call then was 5R8AF and now is W7DAF. I was licensed in the fall of 1969 after I returned to the USA. My first call was WN4PDS then WB4PDS. I moved to work in Maryland, the FCC assigned me WA3UDM. I returned to Florida and the FCC assigned WA4GUK to me. Now I am WG4K, I just dropped a few letters from my call. I have held every class of Ham license except for the no code tech. I am a member of the ARRL, Fort Myers Amateur Radio Club, The Gulf Coast Area Repeater Club, The QCWA and The Florida AM Group. I have worked most of the modes including Satellite. My favorite birds were AO-10 and AO-13 mode B. I was a member of AMSAT and visited the AO-40 integration site in Orlando a couple of times. My current interest is vintage equipment. The pictures show my two vintage stations. I also have modern equipment for all bands 80 meters to 70 centimeters.
