** ** ** ** **

Greetings from Suburban Baltimore, Maryland. I have been a radio enthusiast since I was a small child. I can remember the glow and smell of the Granco FM radio I operated as a child. I enjoyed taking all the tubes out, testing them, and replacing the bad ones.

Over the years my Grandfather, Father and many mentors aided my transition to walkie talkies (bike mobile of course), CB radio, SWLing, etc. until I "graduated" into ham radio by age 16!

My original Elmer, "Tee" Bruno, WA2AET (SK) would give me CW practice every week.I passed my novice CW exam with code proficiency greater than 20 w.p.m. without ever transmitting on a ham band.then promptly learned about humiliation when I FAILED my novice written exam - a short lived error.

In November, 2004 I relocated to my current location in Taneytown, MD where I am surrounded by beautiful farm views and have just over an acre of land. I have made good use out of AB/577 Military masts which support my antenna hardware.

My station is configured as a Multi-Operator/Multi-Transmitter contest station and I can support 6 simultaneous high power HF operations on 10 - 160 meters.

The WX3B antenna lineup consists of:

10m: Force 12 EF-610 at 55 feet

15m: Force 12 MAG-615 at 55 feet

20m: Force 12 EF-420 at 50 feet

40m: 2 element Force 12 EF-240X at 55 feet

80m: Phased inverted L verticals, 9,000 feet of radials (Comtek phasing box)+ dipole at 55 feet. Array solutions stack match used to select vertical array, dipole, or split power to both antennas.

160m: Inverted L - 55 foot vertical, 80 foot horizontal, 5,000 feet radials, W3DF design.

Receive Antennas: 4x 300' beverages (KD9SV), NE, SW, NW, SE shared on 80 & 160 operating positions with K9AY beverage switching system

My long term goal is to build a competitive Multi/Multi contest station.

I am a member of the Potomac Valley Radio Club (PVRC), the Carroll County Amateur Radio Club, and the Carroll County Contesters (WY3P).

My station is a GREAT place for new contesters to get their feet wet and experience the thrill and camaraderie of Multi-Operator competition during the major contests.

Some new enthusiastic WX3B operators include: N8IVN, KB3CS, N3TD, N3YIM and others.

Many friends have greatly assisted with my station building: N3SB, NY3A, AK3Z, K3LP, W3LPL, K4JA, W3ARS, N3VOP, K1RH, W3ADC, W3RAR, N3KS, W3DF, N3OC, W3ADX and N3ST.

A special acknowledgement is in order Bob Morris, W4MYA for teaching me about Multi/Multi contesting.

73 & hope to hear you on the air,

Jim Nitzberg WX3B
