WX5OUN is the SKYWARN Norman OK station located at the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Norman Oklahoma. In 2006 the Norman NWS office moved to the National Weather Center on the campus of the University of Oklahoma. This facility also houses several other government weather agencies including the Storm Prediction Center, National Severe Storms Laboratory, and portions of the Radar Operations Center. Others in the facility include the Oklahoma Climate Survey and the University of Oklahoma School of Meteorology. Many of the meteorologists and electronics technicians in the forecast office are licensed and operate the station in times of pending or actual severe weather. The Norman NWS office is responsible for issuing weather forecasts and warnings to most of the western two thirds of Oklahoma and eight counties in the western part of North Texas.
