In 1903 the descendants of the original inhabitants of Dominica were granted their own territory on the northeast coast of Dominica. The territory is nowadays a partly sef-governing area of Dominica with its own local government - The Carib Council. Elections are held every 5 years. The Carib Territory is a constituency which elects one member of the National Parliament.
