Licensed as KA0CFD while in Sioux City West High school in 1979, in part due to the kind influence of my Electronics teacher Neil Klagge - W0YSE and "Elmer" Preston Raynie - WD0UW. '80 US Navy as Electronic Tech. (Busy - let my license expire) '85-'89 Briar Cliff College - Computer Science '89 Working in Scale Service (Weighing systems, Industrial) '90 Moved to Portland, Oregon (Scale tech for job) March 2000 - Ran across KS0F, John, also originally from Sioux City. Urged by him to test for my license. One week study, went to testing to get No-code license - passed Elements 2, 3A, 3B, 4A Studied, next week passed Element 4B. Became KD7IRI. I now have Vanity call KA0TP to show where and when I came into Ham Radio and as a 2x2 to show I have upgraded.

Active with Parg and PARC as a VE, Been a Volunteer with W7SUB, the Sub USS Blueback at OMSI for several years, and try to participate in the three VHF/UHF contest each year. January, June and September.
