W8AL is the callsign for the Canton Amateur Radio Club in Canton, Ohio. This call belonged to Wilson E. Weckel, a US Navy Radio Officer in the first World War, then later an RO on the Great Lakes. W8AL became an SK in 1971.

Canton ARC meets at 7:30 PM on the third Wednesday of the month at the Stark County EMA, located in the lower level of the Safety Building at 4500 Atlantic Blvd.

Canton ARC is proud to participate in ARRL Field Day as a class 2A entry. We also sponsor a BSA affiliated youth group, Venturing Crew 73. Contact Crew Advisor NX8J for more information.

In late summer, we operate a special event station associated with the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival. Certificates will be given upon completion of a valid QSO with W8AL.
(2009)
QSL via large SASE to WQ8J or as directed on the air. Be sure to include the serial number given on the air with your QSL.

We have an HF/VHF/UHF station in the Stark County EMA. This is not the only station that will use the W8AL callsign. During Field Day we compete using the W8AL call. When Crew 73 participates in JOTA (Jamboree On The Air) Scouting events, we also use the W8AL call.

Our club repeater is on 146.79- MHz and does not require a PL tone.

We hope you are able to visit with us on the air. If your travels take you to northeast Ohio, you may want to check out the Pro Football Hall of Fame here in Canton.
