Only a privileged few got to hear Brenda Porter's voice on the air and talk with her. She was a bit shy but made friends with the all hams she met personally. She moved from Ohio few years back to live with Joe Brownell out of Siloam Springs. Ark . Got her Techician class ticket about year and a half ago.

Manassas, VA tentatively pulling the plug on BPL

The city of Manassas, VA is set to pull the plug on its controversial BPL service by June, citing cost concerns.
The service is projected to lose on average over $150,000 per year in the coming years. The system is losing money because less that 600 subscribers have signed up.

Solar Cycle 24 Continues To Ramp Up

The cycle 24 sunspot group that I mentioned on November 18, 2009 has been numbered 11033 by the NOAA/SWPC. It is located near N17E20 and contains a beta magnetic signature capable of producing very small B class solar flares. As mentioned yesterday SIDC Belgium assigned it Catania #28.
