QSL info: On 25th October 2010, I started my 50th year as a licensed radio amateur. To celebrate this, I shall be QRV as 5B50J from 25th October 2010 to 25th October 2011, the 50th Anniversary of my first licence. In my early years of operating, I was QRV as G3PMR and also as GW3PMR. After several years as a SWL (A2074), I was QRV as G3PMR from my parents' home in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire for a short time, and then from South Wheatley, Retford. Nottinghamshire. I was QRV, in term-time, as GW3PMR from Bangor, North Wales, as a student at the University College of North Wales (UCNW), Bangor, where I took a BSc in Electronic Engineering and Mathematics. Whilst in Bangor, I founded the UCNW Amateur Radio Society, GW3UCB. I was very QRV on 160m CW as GW3PMR. My first rig consisted of a surplus R107 rx, and a Panda Cub tx (25 watts except 160m, which was 10 watts). I later "upgraded" the rx to a BC348. Later I bought a home made 813-based rf power amplifier, which I modified extensively. Antennas at both QTHs were of the wire variety. I was given a Vibroplex bug as a 21st birthday present, which was very much my pride and joy at that time! My first QSO was on 4th November 1961, on 40m AM, with G3GBB. I was QRT from 2nd August 1967 until 7th May 1982. My amateur radio interest was re-kindled when I moved in next door to Mike, G4PFF (now 5B4AGX), in West Cambridgeshire. Thanks Mike, you have a lot to answer for!! Today, as 5B4AHJ-P3J-5B50J, my station comprises a FTDX5000 and Quadra amplifier, an Optibeam 11/5, inverted vees for 30/40/80m and a borrowed 4 ele Yagi for 6m. I plan to be very QRV as 5B50J, on SSB & CW, and welcome QSOs from all, of course. I look forward to many QSOs as 5B50J! Last modified: 2011-11-18 16:50:34, 2258 bytes cached
