DLØZZF/am on Board the Zeppelin NT
From June 24-26, 2011, Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance will be host again to Europe’s biggest Amateur Radio exhibition, the HAM RADIO 2011. It was in 2009 that its 17,400 visitors experienced a premiere. For the first time in the history of ham radio as well as in aviation, there was an aeronautical mobile operation taking place from a Zeppelin. The Zeppelin NT is based in Friedrichshafen, just across the road of the exhibition premises. Five flights had to be cancelled due to bad weather with thunderstorms and hail, but on early Sunday morning the airship lifted off with 11 passengers on board. One of them was the trustee of the airship’s club station, Hans Schwarz, DK5JI. He managed to work 92 stations during this 20 minutes flight using the airship’s call sign DLØZZF/am. QSO’s were conducted on 145.550 MHz in FM. There are plans for a permanently installed ham radio station on board the Zeppelin NT (“New Technology”) providing both HF and VHF/UHF operation..
