HF activity

Hi everyone

I am Michele -Miki- a 22 y.o Italian student excited by ham radio world. I got my license when I was 18 and I have been on the air since January 2009.

I study Urban planning at Politecnico di Milano, and I am currently working under the supervision of the UN in Geneva. I love ham radio, aerial works with helicopter, trekking and hiking and commercial ships (mainly ferries, tanker and cargo).

Up to now I have run a simple station, I am only a student living in my parent's house which doesn't have much space for antennas… (especially for HF). Low bands are the ones I like most, but a lot of space is required… I love 40m where I spend the most time. in the alps high bands are not easy to be done.Recently I started experimenting a 27m long wire with 9:1 balun i'd use for 1.8 and 3.5 Mhz.

Thank you for over 11000 qso

Up here you can see my "shack"; I work on HF with a Yaesu FT-950. It's a good radio especially considering cost/effectiveness ratio! Occasionally I also use an FT-897D, but mainly for field days and temporary stations. For HF I also have an FT-817 N/D, absolutely "cute" and amazing, which is the first radio I bought. I really love portable activity and the 817 is usually with me. Recently I have bought anFT-847which i will mainly use for local repeaters and some portable on the 4 bands it covers. My HF antennas are hand-made (at least a bit of genuine ham spirit!). As I said I don't have much space, I have half wave dipoles for 40-20-15-10m but I always plan for better system (I'd like a 3 el quad 40-17m).

I live in the mountains and working on VHF UHF bands out of the local area is nearly impossible, nevertheless I can do SSB both with the 897 and 817. FM for repeaters and "rag-chewing" is made with an FT-8800 and an FT-7800.

In 2010 our club decided to experiment digital comms. So I equipped wit an IC-2820. Tests ended soon (we were too few to have good results) so now the 2820 is mobile-mounted in my truck. Antennas for V-UHF are from Diamond: X-510 (to the 897), X-50s (to 817 and 8800) and X-30 (for 7800).

In the past I have also tested 1.2Ghz with Kenwood T-541 and a 12el yagi results have been satisfying but again we were so few and we abandoned any further implementation (radios and antennas will be used for repeater linkage).

SINCE 2013 I STARTED VHF CONTEST ACTIVITY

portable activities

I am anIFF(italian flora fauna) activator, at first as manager and operator of II1IFF (IFF-245, 193) and now as aFREE LANCE. Here a picture of IZ1POA/P IFF-511. during this activation i've used a Delta loop for 40m and a windom for 20m. in 45 minutes i've made all the 100 qso on the 2 bands, necessary for the accreditation. i made some further experiment and i finished with 250 strations in the log. (special tnx to IZ1PJX for some logistic assistance).

IFF-511 IZ1POA/P, full wave delta loop for 40m!! :)

While I hike I use to carry one of my hand-held, this is one of my main passion. I own a VX-7r and an FT-250, but my favorite are Motorolas!!! I have a GP 380 for VHF (I use it also for my job with helicopters) and a GP 680 for UHF.

I am also active from France as F/IZ1POA, where my family owns a holiday house

In my ham career i have visited other than F also DL and IS0, Sardinia island

Sardinia IS0 operating on 40m with FT-897 and mini dipole, Golfo aranci and Tavolara island (ICV station)

I really love the alpine environment and helicopters, so in summers I work in an Elicopter company, here you are some pics, hope you enjoy

An other passion I have are ships! I am a real enthusiast of marine comms and i frequently visit commercial harbours (up to now i've been in Genoa, Vado Ligure, Porto Torres, Olbia, Tulon Nice, Rotterdam and Hamburg), here some pictures i've done during my trips

I am A.R.M.I -Italian radio ham sailor associated-

ANY QSO WITH /MM IS FOR ME A GREAT PLEASURE
