I became a amateur radio operator in 1967 at age 14 and have been active ever since.  My novice call was WN4KGB that I got in Miami Florida. When I upgraded it became WB4KGB. Moving to Tulsa Oklahoma I got the call WD5GLW. After retiring I moved back to Florida and got the K4MIA call. I operate all bands 2 through 160 meters. I enjoy chasing DX, contesting, working digital modes, ATV, slow scan TV, satellites and good old rag chewing. Basically anything RF. I am a member of ARRL, QCWA, South Florida contest group, AMSAT, ARLHS, IOTA, POTA, Feld Hell Club, 3905 Century Club, and World SSTV club.

Also, I enjoy contacting and working Special Event Stations. In 2011 I began running K4MIA Special Event station to honor our POWs and MIAs. See below. This has become a very big and important part of my radio hobby.

Beside using radios I also collect radios -  Spark transmitters and early amateur radios, crystal sets, battery radios, pre 1930 broadcast radios and ham radios, especially Drake.

I want to mention two special ham operators. Betsy K4RPI my wonderful wife for supporting and helping me in this great hobby. Also a good friend Don KB5VP that I have made thousands of contacts over the last 35 plus years.

National POW MIA Recognition Day Special Event Station

Observances of National POW MIA Recognition Day are held across this country on the third Friday in September each year. This year (2015) it will be on September 18th. The day was established to honor our prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action. K4MIA will be in operation September 11 thru 20 to recognize our POWs and MIAs. Will operate on or around 21.300, 18.150, 14.265, and 7.185. Also, there will be a sister station K4MIA/7 in operation a few days. For a QSL (card can be seen below) please send your QSL and SASE to address above. Because of volume of requests you MUST send SASE to get a returned QSL. Please take time to remember our POW's and MIA's as well as their families. I would like to include all veterans (past and present) that have given so much for this country.

Thanks to PhotoQSLs.com for donating these beautiful QSLs.

National POW/MIA Recognition Day special event was a huge success again. This was the 6th year and has become an annual event on the third Friday in September. Many thanks to everyone that made it a success, especially Lee K7NM for running sister station K4MIA/7 again this year. Also thanks to Ed K4NYC for running the second station the first three years. Looking forward to next year.
