QSL image for K7IQO

QSL's: eQSL WORKS BEST FOR ME, BUT I CERTAINLY WILL RESPOND TO OTHER REQUESTS. THANKS!

IT'S GOOD TO BE BACK! I ORIGINALLY OBTAINED MY NOVICE LICENSE IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL IN 1959 FOLLOWED BY MY GENERAL LICENSE IN THE SPRING OF 1960, BOTH WITH THE HELP OF K7HFV, GORDON SMITH. I WAS ACTIVELY INVOLVED WITH HAM RADIO THROUGHOUT HIGH SCHOOL INTO MY FIRST YEAR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH. AS A JUNIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL I BECAME INTERESTED IN CHEMISTRY. I MAJORED IN CHEMISTRY AT THE U OF U AND CONTINUED MY GRADUATE EDUCATION TO THE PHD LEVEL. I AM SORRY TO SAY THAT CHEMISTRY TOOK MUCH OF MY TIME AND I HAD LITTLE TIME FOR HAM RADIO. I UNFORTUNATELY LET MY LICENSE EXPIRE IN 1965.

IN THE YEARS FOLLOWING THE EXPIRATION OF MY LICENSE I WAS CONVINCED THAT SOME DAY I WOULD GET IT BACK. I ALWAYS HAD A SHORTWAVE RADIO AVAILABLE AND LISTENED REGULARLY.IN THE WINTER OF 2012I STARTED STUDYING AND TOOK THE THREE AMATEUR RADIO TESTS IN APRIL OF THE SAME YEAR. LUCKILLY, I PASSED ALL THREE. I WENT ON THE AIR FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 47 YEARS ON APRIL 30, 2012 AS AE7TM. I GOT MY OLD CALL SIGN BACK (K7IQO) THROUGH THE VANITY PROGRAM, AND SINCE HAVE ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE OF MY TIME ON THE AIR. I PLAN ON SPENDING MANY MORE YEARS ENJOYING HAM RADIO AND THE PEOPLE THAT MAKE THE HOBBY SO INTERESTING AND FUN. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!

I LOVE THE NEW EQUIPMENT AND I AM OPERATING A YAESU FT-DX5000MP WITH A PALSTAR AT2KD TUNER INTO A G5RV ANTENNA (SHALLOW INVERTED V: 28' ENDS, 46' APEX). I SPEND MOST OF MY TIME ON 10, 12,17 AND 20 METERS. AS OF 09/20/2012 I ADDED A YAESU VL-1000 QUADRA LINEAR AMP TO MY SHACK (IT'S GREAT!).

I AM AN AVID HIKER AND RECENTLY (FEBRUARY 2013) AQUIRED A ELECRAFT KX3 (12 WATTS MAX) AND AN ALEXLOOP 10-40M LOOP. I PLAN ON SPENDING A LOT OF TIME IN THE UTAH MOUNTAINS OPERATING QRP.

KIT
