I was first licensed in (about) 1959 (KN7KSO) while working on my radio merit badge for Boy Scouts in Yuma, Arizona. I later upgraded to K7KSO and then became W6CJT while in college in California (Stanford). I operated as W6CJT/MM from the Coast Guard icebreaker Northwind during the spring of 1968, but dropped out of the hobby a few years later while in medical school (U of Calif., San Diego)---no time and no money! I'm back now (relicensed in July '08) and reclaimed my old call. I rebuilt a Heathkit Sixer (one of my first rigs) that I found on e-bay. It works, but 6m. crystal controlled AM is mostly a historical curiousity. I travel a lot for the day job (I'm CEO of the Medical Group Management Association - MGMA) and am frequently either portable (FT-857D or TS-480) or using a handheld to see what's cooking on the local VHF / UHF repeaters wherever I am. When I'm in Denver, I like to ragchew and work a little dx on the HF bands with my TenTec Omni VII, SPE Expert 1K-FA amp and Cushcraft R6000 vertical or the Windom HSQ for the lower bands. I'm just getting into the digital modes, and learning how to use PSK 31. I also frequently operate portable from our vacation home on Fripp Island, South Carolina (US Island SC008S) with an FT-950 and another Windom HSQ. My OMISS # is 6471 and my Ten-Ten # is 75418. I also am frequently found on the 3905 CC 40m. net. I respond 100% to anyone who wants a cool QSL card and I really enjoy receiving your cards. I also do regular uploads to LOTW. Pse qsl direct to the Denver QTH (or through the OMISS or 3905 CC buros if we worked one another on one of those nets).
