Click for more detail... I'm active on 6 meters, usually SSB, especially during band openings. Most of my 200+ confirmed Grids were worked on a twin-lead J-pole hanging from a tree limb. I call it my Vertical Magic Wire (VMW) for the Magic Band. I'm also on 2 meters FM for local communications, simplex and repeaters, and some SSB. Upgraded to General in March 2007. Didn't get on HF much during the Summer, but I have more time for that during the colder months. Some of my other activities with radios are Field Day, Skywarn, local Special Event Stations, and listening on other bands: VHF, HF/SW, MW. I have tried some meteor scatter on 6, but don't have enough antenna or power to make many contacts there. Also have some interest in satellites, but haven't tried that yet, except helping with the attempt at Field Day. Something else about "VMW". Our local Club call is W9VMW. By pure luck the FCC gave me KB9VMW back in 1999. The Club's version of VMW for Field Day is Very Muddy and Wet. Field Day 2007 was one of our wettest. We almost cancelled the picnic, but you know that could never happen! Friday and Sunday were dry, so setup and teardown went well, and we just stayed inside with the radios on Saturday. http://www.w9vmw.org Good luck on the bands, 73 Tom Last modified: Mon Nov 16 08:36:56 2009 Does this page contain inappropriate content?
