Thanks for looking me up! I got my technician license on December 13, 2004 as KCØTNJ. Got the vanity call of KDØJBN on January 10, 2006 and upgraded to General on March 19, 2007. My interest in ham radio goes back to about 1977 when I was in 7th or 8th grade. I was working with an Elmer to learn code, how radios work, the rules, etc. After a few months of this my Elmer became a silent key. So, it all got put on the back burner for a LOOOONG time.

For the most part I'm an appliance operator, but I've gotten facinated with antennas and have homebrewed all of my antennas for home use. The only antennas I've bought commercially have been a couple mag mounts for the car.

A friend/Elmer of mine here in St Louis (Steve - WØSJS) gave me a Ten Tec Scout so I could get on HF after upgrading to General. Thanks Steve I truely appreciate it! I made my first HF contact on it October 19, 2007 with AA1KS out on Moose Island, Maine. I have since bought an Icom 751A for my HF operations and I will be giving my sister the Scout since she has upgraded to General.

My sister got her Technician license in October of 2009 shortly after bought a Yaesu FT-2900R. After she got her rig all hooked up she was also able to link in to an IRLP node near her and we've had many QSO through it. In February 2011 she upgraded to General and hopefully soon I can work her on HF. Anyway, her callsign is KD8MGB.

Now to the personal stuff - I'm married with three boys ages 18, 16 & 14. All three of the boys are in Boy Scouts. I'm an Assistant Scoutmaster in their troop.

As an active Scout Leader, I also work on combining radio with Scouts. Three years I set up a Jamboree On The Air station at Beaumont Scout Camp just southwest of St Louis, Missouri. I've also helped others with JOTA stations some other years. To read more about our JOTA station, visit http://www.arrl.org/jota-storiesand select either 2007, 2008 or 2009 from the pull down menu then search for my callsign.

About my callsign. I get a lot of questions about why I have such a "strange" vanity callsign. It's to honor my family - my wife's name starts with K, my name starts with D, my three sons' names from oldest to youngest start with J, B & N and we live in "zero land".

Feel free to visit my web page - http://kd0jbn.webs.com/

73,

Don - KDØJBN
