The name is Dave.

Just a note for info.

I am currently under taking a QTH move.August 25th 2009 the move took place.Boy what a job, shack was the last thing to move, before Charlie. Oh Charlie is my pet 4 foot iguana.

The new shack was set up and running on the 28th, So all in all the move went well. the rest of the unpacking is still underway. As i say whats the rush, radios and antennas are up and running, oh and the coffee pot works as well, no mountain dew slushes, no place here sells them Cry. I guess i'm a true ham. the shack is the last thing to be moved, so as to be the first item off the truck, hi hi.

QSL card's for my old qth will still be sent out for QSO'S  made prior to the move date. i have some 200 so i will gladly send paper qsl's to any one requireing them.

I use EQSL, for how much longer i'm not sure. Since my move i have not been able to update my QTH details. the eqsl site still has me listed as NC. Very frustrating.

Also i use LoTW also regular snail mail for qsl card's, my log is uploaded on the 1st day of each month, if you require it sooner please feel free to email me or if in a qso with me request it sooner. If sending a SASE please note my cards are 4X6,

I have been interested in amateur radio since I was 12 years of age. Originally from the UK, Born in the small village of Redmarley D'abitot, Gloucestershire.

I started out in ham radio with a home brew radio with just one short wave frequency 20 meters. When I first turned on the power to this radio and it worked I could have been knocked over with a feather. I got my G ticket when I was 14 after a long hard slog at the Morse code. I ding’t have a radio until some 2 years later it took me that long to save enough money to buy one, my Elmer back then was G3VZR Roy. Every thing I learned about amateur radio I owe to this man. He loaned me an old AR 88 radio (who of us can remember that heavy beast?) I had to transport it 4 miles on an old pram Chases and that was what I used for SWL purposes until I got my first transceiver. Yaesu 401 Some years ago (1992) due to family involvement I allowed my license to lapse. In 2000 I meet a young lady on line, and that’s what brings me to North Carolina, I came over in 2001 for a visit and we got married. She talked me into retaking my ticket, so I found a testing location in Smithfield NC. Went and passed the technician class exam. I’m now striving to take the General class exam. So as I can join some of my old pals back in the UK on the HF bands. As of the Jeth November 2003 this was achieved, i took my CW and General written test, again in Smithfield NC, so I'm now able to operate on the HF bands. My first contact was KB4WEC.

I’m a member of the JARS (Johnson amateur radio society) we meet on the 147.270 repeater every day for general rag chew and fun. Also to promote the good name of Amateur radio. This unfortunatley is no longer possible with my qth move to SC, how ever i do still like to chate with fellow hams in that area via the ecoe link system and K4JDR's 440 link system.

Also i like to Join in with the G-NET on 14.337mhz. conditions prevaling. seems not to happen very  often. this group meets every day at 08.00 est or 13.00 utc. I think there is only one condition to be a member and that is to be an ex-pat of the UK.

The image below is of the home brew 20 meter beam that is aloft a 40 foot also home brew tower. the beam is taken from the original design of . all i changed was the boom construction. The original construction calls for a timber made boom, to heavy for my tower. so it is all PVC pipe. if your interested in building the beam just ask and i will furnish the details. you have heard how it performs, well worth the effort to assemble, also light enough to be rotated with a regular TV antenna rotor.

The other pic is of me working FD June 2009. For those that do not know me personally, the Icee is frozen Mountain Dew. I'm addicted to them. good and cold 24/7.

Several have asked me about Charlie, So i have decided to post his picture here on qrz. He is a Green Iguana, 4 feet in length. Raised from a hatchling back in 2004. He has a strong will of his own and will only be handled when he wants. A good pair of welding gloves are need to be worn when i do get the chance, as he has needle sharp claws that dig deep.

Thanks for reading and many 73's Dave

Me working field day
