THANKS FOR STOPPING BY. LET ME TELL YOU A LITTLE ABOUT KK4BMB.

I FIRST BECAME INTERESTED IN AMATEUR RADIO AS A TEENAGER AND RECEIVED MY NOVICE LICENSE IN JULY,1959 AND WENT ON TO THE GENERAL CLASS THE FOLLOWING SPRING. THE ABOVE PHOTO WAS MY STATION IN 1960. MY CALL WAS K3JME AND I LIVED IN EXETER, PA. FOLLOWING HIGH SCHOOL I ENLISTED IN THE US NAVY WHERE I WENT TO ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN SCHOOL. WHILE SERVING ABOARD SHIP FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS I HAD THE OPPORUNITY TO OPERATE AS K3JME/MM WHICH WAS A REAL TREAT FOR A 19-20 YR OLD.

AFTER COMPLETING MY NAVAL SERVICE I WORKED AS A TECHNICIAN AND WENT TO COLLEGE PART TIME IN THE EVENINGS. A YEAR OF THAT WAS ENOUGH AND I DECIDED TO GO TO COLLEGE FULL TIME. I GRADUATED FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF SCRANTON WITH A BS & MA IN PHYSICS. WHILE A SENIOR I MARRIED MY WIFE BARBARA. IN1970 WE MOVED TO CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA TO THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA WHERE I SPENT THE NEXT 4 YEARS AS A GRADUTE STUDENT IN THE PHYSICS DEPARTMENT. I DID MY PHD RESEARCH IN SUPERCONDUCTIVITY AND RECEIVED MY DEGREE IN OCTOBER, 1974. BARBARA & I HAVE 3 BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN AND I GOT A REAL JOB THAT YEAR IN THE WASHINGTON METRO AREA DOING GOVERNMENT CONTRACTING WORK. THREE YEARS LATER I STARTED WORKING FOR THE GOVERNMENT AS A RESEARCH PHYSICIST AT THE NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY (NRL) DOING SUPERCONDUCTING MATERIALS AND DEVICE RESEARCH. MY LICENSE HAD EXPIRED AND I DROPPED OUT OF HAM RADIO.

HERE I AM AT AGE 70 WITH OUR YELLOW LAB.

IT IS GOOD TO BE BACK ON THE AIR AFTER OVER 40 YEARS QRT.  I AM NOW RETIRED AND AMATEUR RADIO HAS BEEN A GREAT HOBBY ONCE AGAIN. IN APRIL, 2011 I PASSED THE GENERAL LICENSE TEST AND WAS ON THE AIR AGAIN THE NEXT WEEK. AUGUST, 2011 I PASSED AND RECEIVED THE EXTRA CLASS LICENSE. MY CALL IS KK4BMB. PRESENTLY I OPERATE MOSTLY CW WITH A LITTLE SSB.  YOU CAN FIND ME ON 80 THRU 6 METER BANDS. I USE ONLY HOME BREW WIRE ANTENNAS WITH AN ANTENNA TUNER. IT WASN'T HARD TO GET BACK TO COPYING CW AS THAT WAS MY FAVORITE MODE BACK IN MY TEEN YEARS. MY RIG CONSISTS OF A YAESU FT-3000 TRANSCEIVER AND A MFJ-969 ANTENNA TUNER WHICH HAS DONE A FINE JOB.  I RECENTLY ADDED AN AMERITRON AL811H AMP AND AMFJ-989D ANTENNA TUNNER.  MY LATEST ANTENNA ADDITION IS A HOME BREW G5RV.

MY SHACK IS LOCATED IN THE BASEMENT WHICH IS NICE AND WARM IN THE WINTER TIME AS WE HAVE A WOOD BURNING STOVE FIRED ALL WINTER. OUR CAT ALISTER CAN BE FOUND CURLED UP CLOSE TO THE STOVE.

HERE IS ALISTER RESTING AT HIS WINTER HIDE OUT

MEMBER ARRL AND SKCC (#8487).

I WILL RESPOND 100% TO ALL QSLs, eQSLs, and SWLs RECEIVED. I STILL LIKE THE PAPER QSL CARDS. I HAVE A LOT OF CATCHING UP TO DO WITH COLLECTING THEM. NO SASE IS NECESSARY. DX CAN USE DIRECT MAIL OR THE BUREAU.  I UPLOAD MY LOGS TO LOTW AND QRZ.COM ABOUT ONCE A WEEK OR SO.

YOU MAY ALSO HEAR ME AS KK4BMB/8 FROM OUR GET-AWAY HOUSE IN WEST VIRGINIA. THE WV QTH IS IN MORGAN COUNTY AND LOCATED OUTSIDE OF BERKELEY SPRINGS. I SET UP AN OLDER RIG ALONG WITH 40 & 20 M DIPOLES. FOR THE WV QTH PLEASE USE KK4BMB/8 FOR DIRECT & ELECTRONIC QSLs. I HAVE LoTW, QRZ.COM, & eQSL ACCOUNTS SET UP.

HOPE TO HEAR YOU ON THE BANDS.

BEST 73

ED, KK4BMB
