I was first licensed in 1963 as KN1EPJ, thanks to Jack (K1MVV). I built a DX-60 and used a Hallicrafters S-102 as a receiver. The best I could do was getting across the lake to Plattsburg NY. Bert (K1RMF) taught me code at the Franklin Cty (VT) Amateur Radio Club. I then joined the Navy and went to radioman school. I graduated top in my class copying 30 WPM. I spent my Navy time stationed on a Polaris Submarine, The James K. Polk (SSBN 645) from (1965 - 1968). After getting out of the Navy I spent a year at the University of VT. I ended up getting married in 1969, selling my NCX-3 to buy the engagement ring.
I am on the air almost every day. I enjoy CW contesting both DX and domestic. I also like QRP but I am not a militant QRPer. I also like LP operation,. I have used many many radios over the past few years but I think I have found the Nirvana for CW ops in the K3. It is a keeper.
