Your first contact!
We all remember our first contact, but at least for me it is rare to be someone else’s first contact. It seems like these days most first contacts are made on 2M with a local station or even a friend. On July 28th 2009 I was on 6m and make contact with KB3TAW, Steve Lett of Bethany Beach DE. He told me I was his first contact and I right away assumed he meant first on 6m. I quickly learned I was his first Amateur Radio contact ever. To me this was amazing that these days someones first contact could be 540 miles and on 6M, a band that is not open all that often. I also found out Steve, KB3TAW, was born and raised in Tipton Indiana, 65 miles from my QTH. It truly is a small world! Being a professional photographer I decided to create him a special 8x10 QSL card (see below) that he now proudly displays in his shack. I would suggest if you are someones first contact, that you consider doing something special for that person to welcome him or her to this great hobby.
