That's me. N1KRC. I cleaned up the shack area somewhat and even put on a decent shirt! Anyway, I am not that active, I have been off the radio for a number of years and have just become (2009) active again. Radio is a Kenwood TS-870, running 100 watts usually. Prior to August 2009 the antenna was an old Hustler 6BTV I picked up and never tuned. This spring I built a homebrew 5 band hex beam and it works great! So good I can hardly believe it.
It It works a whole lot better than the Hustler but it is on a 55 ft old Mosely crank up tower. Previously I had a Moxon antenna , homebrew but only for 20 meters. The moxon worked great! But heavy wet snow and rain broke it into several pieces in late I still use a paper log book but are entering all of my contacts (since 1995) into the Ham Radio Deluxe program. I will upload to eQSL and logbook of the world when I get done. Expect some mistakes as it is a boring and time consuming effort so don't get ticked off if I goof up and get your call or time or band or whatever off a bit ( or a lot). I like 10 meters when it is open and have 10-10 number. I also like the W1OJ repeater crosslinked with 2 meters and 10 meters FM (near Boston). That way I can work many countries from my 2 meter HT even if I am in my backyard mowing my lawn!! My two children Frank (KB1JQU) and Margaret (KB1DHH) are also hams. I have a degree in Civil Engineering with an Environmental Major. I am also the Public Health Officer for the town I live in, Westborough, Massachusetts, USA, 25 miles west of Boston, MA Salt water fishing on my 20 ft boat is my major passion. I fish the Massachusetts coast whenever I can. Next time I post a picture of a big striped bass, maybe. Come on SUNSPOTS!!!!
