Born in 1946. I joined the Amateur Radio ranks at the age of 16, while taking an Industrial Arts class in high school in 1962. I obtained my Novice license, WN5CHX, with some mentoring from Roland Jenkins, WA5BUA (SK). Shortly thereafter I upgraded to a Conditional License obtaining call WA5CHX. Was active mostly on CW and AM during my college years. As the years passed, I became inactive in ham radio due to family and work obligations. Rick Breaux, N5RLM, who was licensed at the same time as I in 1962, he Elmer'd me back into ham radio with encouragement. In March 2001, I passed the Technician and General Examination test and received the call KD5NOZ, but quickly changed that to a Vanity call, WA5CHX, my old call. Two years later I upgraded to Extra and obtained Vanity call NA5Q, which is a better CW, RTTY and Contesting call. Since re-entering the hobby I have met many good elmer's and friends, like Charles, K5UA and Charlie, KI5XP who got me interested and involved in contesting, DX and RTTY. Rick, N5RLM, Pat, W5WMU and Buddy, N5AN have also assisted me greatly in this wonderful hobby. I am active in the Acadiana Amateur Radio Association radio club, having served as a director and president. I am very involve in teaching classes to individuals for their Technician Class License and perform examinations as a VE with ARRL. Membership with Ten-Ten, Fists, NCDXA and ARRL organizations. I like rag chewing, but my primary interest is in chasing DXCC, participating with others in Contests and performing experiments with antennas. I am a charter member of the Louisiana Contest Club, check out website at http://www.louisianacontestclub.org. My station consists of an Icom 7700 transceiver and QRO with an ACOM 2000a. My antenna's are an Steppir 4E 40-6m and Inv. Vee's for 80m and 160m. A Diamond vertical for 2m-70cm is used for repeater access. All antenna's located on my 60 ft Heights Tower that reclines. Primary logging is done on Logic 8 (General logging) and Writelog (Contest logging). Below are my accomplishments in the short time I have been back on the air.
