Previous call WD0AVV, April 1977 to July 2008.
Please forgive me if I ask you to repeat your call and such during a contest. I can't hear much except for a 10 over S9 noise level on days when the air is real dry especially when the Santa Ana winds are blowing. This is the worst noise level from power lines I've ever experienced.
I use CW 99% of the time and enjoy working DX and participating in contests such as the ARRL 10 Meter, CQ WW WPX and the California QSO Party. I also enjoy the occasional ragchew. Other modes I operate from time to time are PSK31, RTTY and some of the digital weak signal modes .
My current station consists of a Kenwood TS-570DG and a HF vertical mounted on a Harbor Freight 20 ft flagpole.
I QSL 100% either via the Buro or direct. Sending an SASE for DX contacts will help if your card is sent direct. One isn't necessary for North America contacts. eQSL, LOTW and paper QSLs are ok. Prefer paper QSLs though, I like the wall paper and stamps. If you sent a QSL recently I've gotten a little behind in responding. Hopefully over the next couple of months I can catch up.
Other hobbies/interest; drag racing, old muscle cars, hiking, mountain climbing, snow skiing, backpacking, geocaching, old trains (see OERM.org), horses (see RiverHillsPonyClub.org), riding my bicycle, working in my yard, and old western movies (pre 1975).
I've operated from VY0 and KH6.
Update to power line noise issue; Edison came out in Oct. 2015 and located the problem to three power poles that have faulty insulators and hardware. As of 20 Jan. 2016 Edison says it will be repaired by 29 Feb. 2016. In the mean time I can still run HF WSPR, PSK31 and some CW with the narrowest of filters selected.
