No, the callsign is not a vanity call or a contest call.

I enjoy HF DXing, particularly while mobile. 6m is fun too.

Mobile Station: 2008 Toyota Tundra equipped with a Kenwood TS-480S/AT, Ten-Tec Hercules II amp, and a High Sierra HS-1800 antenna. For 6 meters the Kenwood is barefoot with a Diamond HF50CX whip. The latest addition to the mobile setup is.my Motorola Bionic smartphone! Running software from http://www.wolphi.com, I can use my phone for PSK31 and RTTY. While parked, of course.

Home Station: TS-850S/AT with an old BTI LK-2000 (3-1000Z) amp driving a Gap Titan DX. For 6m I use a Ten-Tec 1208 transverter with the TS-850, an old Johnson 6N2 Thunderbolt, and a homebrew Moxon rectangle up about 25'.

Upcoming station improvements: Internet Remote Satellite station, 144 MHz kW amp for WSJT.

I like having a laboratory and have a fair collection of HP and GR RF stuff from the 60s and 70s.

Thrilled to say that my son (pursuing electrical engineering at the University of Texas) is now KF5NIW!

Professionally: Principle Member of Technical Staff (RF) at "a large wireless telephone company"

73, Scott NX7U
