HISTORY: The history of the city begins in the 7th century with the name Neapolis as colony Thasos. Later, as a seaport city of Philippi flourished during the times of the Macedonian state of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great.
In the 8th century. known by the name Christoupolis and after intense adventures and struggles that time of the Crusades, reappears around 1500m.Ch. with its current name and is fast becoming an important port, especially after the Asia Minor catastrophe.
The 20th century finds Kavala to golden era. From 1903 until 1909 the Greek inhabitants, with a high national morale, take part in the Macedonian struggle. The booming tobacco trade and population growth have resulted in the creation of broad working class organized in powerful trade unions claiming dynamically requests tis.I Kavala today is one of the largest (about 80000 inhabitants), after Thessaloniki, northern cities Greece. It is built on the slopes of the mountain "symbol." It's the city that many people classify among the most beautiful and picturesque of our country because of its unique character, its privileged location it was built and the warm and friendly atmosphere.
