«Greek Islands On The Air – GIOTA» award programme. www.greekiota.gr

Dear Colleagues.

Thank you for your interest in my Call Sign and

«Greek Islands On The Air – GIOTA» Award programme.

I was born in 1957 and live in the city of Pythagoras on the island of Samos, one of the 2500 islands of the Greek Archipelago of the Aegean.

For 4000 years now the Aegean Sea and Greek waters in general have never ceased to a channel connecting Europe and Asia as well as Africa, a crossroad of peoples and ideas. This country contributed to world thought the first concrete answers concerning the how and why of the creation of Earth as well as a system of values and ideals for the spiritual evolution of humanity that today constitutes a spiritual inheritance for all.

The internationality of ideals that arose in the Greek Archipelago of the Aegean fit perfectly with the worldwide spirit of the brotherly solidarity, free initiative and volunteerism that is expressed in the idea of Radio Amateurs.

And so I feel very fortunate that I belong to the large global community of Radio Amateurs of which I believe I am a worthy and energetic member as are, of course, most of my colleagues.

I am one of the founding members of the « Aegean DX groupADX » www.aegeandxgroup.gr as well as

« Aegean Radioamateurs Association – ARA » www.sz8s.gr which has its seat in the city of Pythagorio on the island of Samos.

I’m a member of « Radio Amateur Association of Greece – RAAG ». Also I am a collaborative member since 1997 of the « Radio Society of Great Britain – RSGB » and of the « International DX Association – INDEXA ».

For many years I was SWLer (SW1XS). I have been an radio amateur operator (category A) since 1995 and I work systematically with DXing which I consider best promotes the radio amateur spirit , for one because it’s means of a development of personal relationships between radio amateur colleagues.

I am supporter of the « Islands on The AirΙΟΤΑ » programme of the RSGB. From this programme I have been inspired along with other friends from the «Aegean DX group»,

the « Greek Islands On The Air – GIOTA » award programme

(www.greekiota.gr) of which I am the administrator.

Also I am an active participant in the volunteer emergency alert forces of my island, something that every radio amateur should offer to the community to which he belongs.

I would like to point out that the dependence of the radio amateur on the internet that has been notable lately could lead in the future to a loss of a share of our domain and rights.

Finally I’d like to denounce to the global radio amateur community the phenomenon of illegal call signs which appear on amateur radio bands for the purpose of political propaganda…
