Click for more detail... Comme en juin 2004 , le radio club F6KAT de la Base aérienne de Metz frescaty activera un indicatif spécial. Cette année, du 26 novembre 2005 au 10 décembre 2005, le radio club sera actif à l'occasion du cinquantième anniversaire de la Base aérienne dont voici un bref historique... C'est au début du 20ème siècle que le plateau de Frescaty devient une plate-forme aéronautique avec l'arrivée du premier Zeppelin allemand en 1909. Puis le site se transforme en un camp d'aviation en 1912, qui pendant la 1ère guerre mondiale se voit confier une mission d'observation et de bombardement. Cette mission est reprise par le 11ème régiment d'aviation qui s'installe à Frescaty en 1920. La plate-forme est alors le plus important terrain d'aviation de bombardement de tout l'Est. Le 11ème Régiment quitte Metz pour Toulouse en 1936. Il est remplacé par le 38ème Régiment venu de Thionville principalement dédié à des missions de reconnaissance avant de se consacrer à celle de bombardement, rendant, par la même, à la base sa vocation première. Au cours de la seconde guerre mondiale, la plate-forme aéronautique repasse sous contrôle allemand qui l'utilise dans un premier temps en tant que base école ( avion Stukas ) puis comme base opérationnelle vers la fin du conflit(Focke wulf 190). La plate-forme passe sous contrôle allié en 1944 après avoir été presque totalement détruite. Les américains l'utilisent alors comme base de bombardement grâce à une piste métallique. Ce n'est qu'après la signature du traité de l'Atlantique-Nord, le 1er décembre 1955, que la Base opérationnelle 128 est créée. Elle abrite alors la 9ème Escadre de chasse. Ainsi tout au long de la période marquée par l'affrontement entre la France et l'Allemagne, la vocation principale de la Base de Metz Frescaty est celle d'une base de bombardement. Aujourd'hui elle a la particularité d'accueillir un grand commandement organique : le Commandement de la Force aérienne de combat, son Etat-major et ses directions. La base aérienne 128 de Metz Frescaty est l'une des bases les plus importantes de l'Armée de l'air. It's at the beginning of the XXth century that the Frescaty tray began an aeronautics platform with the arrival of the first German Zeppelin in 1909. In 1912, the site was turned into an air force camp which was assigned the mission to observe and proceed to bombings. This assignement was taken over by the 11th air force regiment which settled down Frescaty in 1902. This platform then began the most important airfield for aircraft bombers in the whole East. The 11th air force regiment left Metz in 1936 and settled in Toulouse. It was replaced by the 38th regiment which came from Thionville and was mostly dedicated to reconnaissance missions before dedicating itself to air raids, restoring to the base in that way its initial role. During the Second World War, the aeronautics platform turned back under the German authority and was first used as a teaching center (Stukas planes)and then - i.e. towards the end of the war (Focke wulf 190) - it turned into an operational vase. After being almost totally destroyed, the platform was reconquered by the allied forces. Thanks to the existence of a metallic take off strip the Americans used it as a bombardment vase. It is only after the ratification of the North Atlantic Treaty, on the 1st of December 1955, that the 128 Operational Base was created. It housed then the 9th fighter bomber Wing. In that way all along the period of conflict between France and Germany, the main use of the Marly Frescaty Base was that of being a bombardment vase. Nowadays, it has the particularity to harbour the French Air Force Command, its officerss and management staff. The 128 Air Base of Metz Frescaty is one of the most important bases of the French Air Force.
