“The first pilot of the Arctic”
In commemoration of 125-anniversary of this legendary pilot the diploma is founded.

August 21(8), 1914 at 4:00 am 30 minutes the plane "Maurice Farman" with I. Nagurski and E. Kuznetsov took off from the “lip Cross” with an air temperature of about -15 C - north along the west coast of Novaya Zemlya in the search for the lost expedition of Georgy Sedov, holding height of over 1500 meters. In his autobiography I. Nagurski as passing on his impressions of the first in the history of flight in the sky in the Arctic, “Heavily laden aircraft scrambled to have ice, but then began to climb quickly, before us all the more beautiful views. Right is the island with the ridges peaked and descend on them glaciers. Left is white ocean, which in some places could see dark spots of open water. Icy tops sparkled, picturesque and fantastic forms icebergs. They were then arranged in neat rows, randomly scattered, some in form resembled slender obelisks or prisms, others - a strange kind of driftwood. They sparkled, as if sprinkled with millions of diamonds in the rays of the summer solstice. Realizing, that I'm the first person who has risen to the plane in this harsh edge of eternal winter, filled joy and anxiety, prevent concentrating”. This flight lasted 4 hours and 20 minutes, its length was 450 verst (450 km). Total Nagurski made five extended reconnaissance flights (21, 22, August 23, September 12 and 13) at an altitude of 800-1200 meters along the west coast of Novaya Zemlya and Franz Josef Land.
