Retired Chemical Engineer - I have taken up ham radio along with birding, nature photography, and travel as my 'time occupiers'. The last three I enjoy with my wife. Main interests are in HF Dx'ing at a casual pace. It is interesting to contrast birding with Dx'ing in that people have different agendas - how many species, how many contacts / how many contacts (or species) this year / life time lists - and so on I maintain a simple station: TXR - Kenwood TS 590s Digital: Signalink USB with HRD latest version software Mic: HC-5 cartridge on Heil Pro Headset (usual) + Generic Kenwood hand mike (supplied with Transceiver) Antennas: #1 - 10m Moxon at 10 metres high (askew on chimney) aimed at Europe #2 - 35' ground mounted DX Engineering vertical with 1000' feet of radial wire and an LDG Z-11Pro tuner at the house entrance. About 1/3 of coax is untuned and 2/3 tuned - a move of the tuner to the antenna base is possible this summer when I get the weather proofing sorted out.
