My ham "career" started when I was 13 years old when a friend of mine built a little oscillator with a carrier on the 3 meter band. It's range was only 250 meters or so but I was so impressed with wireless idea that there I got the bug. We built more and better added better antenna's and played with this for some years. 

CB became legal in the Netherlands ( FM only ) when I was 18 and became a CB'er for a few years. Then girls, cars etc. got in the way.

Right after I got married I became a SWL station and not much later I took the basic ham course and got the callsign PE1OUR. A year later passed CW  and got the callsign PA3GOR.

In 1995 my wife, our son and me moved to Canada and became VE6GRD and later VE6DC. 

I still enjoy the hobby as much as then. DXing, propagation and antenna's are my main interests.
