John VK6AU, was VK6HQ from early 1973 to late 2004, a period of 32 years. I joined the International Short Wave League in 1948 as G2196. I was licenced in1954 as DL2XH with the RAF in Bad Eilsen, Germany and set-up a club station there. In 2000, I founded the Ex D Association. The object of the Association is to reunite Btitish and Allied service personnel who served in Germany after WW2 and operated amateur radio while there. For the full story see "Forward into the Past. The Ex D Association" in the November 2004 edition of CQ Amateur Radio Magazine. After returning to London I was issued with G3LXD. I have lived in England, the Isle of Mann, Germany, the USSR and now reside in Western Australia.

I no longer collect QSL cards so there is no need to send me cards as I QSL 100% as time permits. I am considering joining LOTW eventually. Meantime, should you require a card urgently for an award, a direct, prepaid, card will normally be responded to by return mail.

I have been fortunate with opportunies to travel and have visited 36 US States. I once touched down on Diego Garcia.

The above picture was taken on 10 June 2012, my 78th Birthday, in the company of old friend Lenny, W3IOP, at a very pleasant Pittsburgh, PA restaurant.

73 John VK6AU
