W2QW is active in the following areas: 1 New Ham Development and Training: The club and its members have regular monthly meetings at the Somerset Fire Academy at 402 Roycefield Rd in Hillsborough NJ. Anyone interested can view our website at http://www.w2qw.org . Prospective members can download a membership application from this website and mail it to WB2BEW at his callbook address or the address shown on QRZ.com . Guest speakers are scheduled monthly when possible to inform our members and guest of happenings in the amateur community. W2QW host ARRL/VEC VE exams on a quarterly basis when requested. These sessions are coordinated by John Manna, WA2F. The exams schedule can be found on the ARRL.org website. Other members actively participate as VEs with the ETSNJ VE Board in Cranford New Jersey. 2 Public Relations: The coverage of our repeaters provides a service to the Raritan Valley Area of Northern New Jersey. Our club is listed in the Courier-News daily newspaper club listing and we have identified members as contacts for amateur radio assistance and information with our county library system. This information is shared with affiliated libraries. We invite guest speaker throughout the year to our meetings and use use public media tools to inform surrounding communities about our organization and its public serving commitments. Our PIO is E. Drew Moore, W2OU. 3 Emergency Communications: W2QW works closely with the Somerset County OEM. We are starting an active training program to educate members in becoming SKYWARN spotters. Members are also OEM participants for Piscataway Township and several members participate as RACES communicators for Middlesex County. Additionally, some of our members are involved with ARES and MARS. 4 Technical Advancement: Maintaining two repeaters is a tremendous job and requires a well trained technical committee. Our team members meet monthly discuss via committee reports events that have occurred regarding the maintenance of the repeaters; they also conduct special technical sessions and help members. A 2 meter net is held on 146.625 twice monthly at 7pm. For more information contact AC2X. 5 Operating Activities: W2QW has several members who are also members of NJDXA (W2UDT, WA2C, etc.). Each year the club participates as a 2A or 3A station for the field day contest. Often experimental antennas are constructed for the event. This event helps to maintain our technical proficiency and gets everyone involved from our youngest member to our eldest. 6 Miscellaneous Activities: W2QW conducts a Hamfest in June of every year. This is one of the most popular hamfest in central New jersey. During the hamfest we provide field checking for DXCC, always provide for a league table for information dissemination.
