W4ABW is a relatively new vanity call which I obtained in October of 1997. I always wanted a "W" call and was able to get my initials too, which was a plus. Prior to this, I was K4BBF for almost 30 years. Other calls were WA4VPK and K7OFK.

I live in Raleigh, NC with my XYL, Evelyn, who is KC4RPD. I'm retired from the Federal Government, the 82nd Airborne Division and the IBM corporation.WOW too much work.

Radio and especially DXing has been a main hobby for many years. As K4BBF I reached Top of the Honor Roll. I have worked all the USA counties and have USA-CA 742. I currently chase IOTA and have about 900 islands confirmed. I'm trying to work all the DXCC entities again as W4ABW. Having a blast trying anyway. I have put my ABW Q's on LOTW and would encourage others to use this new ARRL system. Its slick !

I like to walk (hike) too. I've walked 3000 miles in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and extensively on the Appalachian Trail. I also enjoy photography. The XYL and I recently concluded a major renovation of our family home in the Western NC mountains.

We have 3 children, all grown and 3 grandchildren. The family is scattered around in Alabama and Tennessee.

I drive a '07 Ford Explorer(Jungle Ferrari), a mint '84 Corvette and a 2004 vette convertible. Life is too short for QRP and going slow.
