GREETINGS FROM THE CHIPPEWA NATIONAL FOREST IN MINNESOTA
The town of Marcell is located on the National Scenic Byway HWY 38 in the Chippewa National Forest in Northern Minnesota. Both the town of Marcell and North Star campground are located above the Laurentian Divide so all the rivers flow North to Hudson’s Bay we are about 70 miles south of the Canadian Border. This is the 17th season as a Volunteer for the US Forest Service. The County is Itasca.
The Minnesota Address is my FCC address and is good all year. The shack is in an Ice Castle Fish House Trailer that I occupy year around. In winter I live on the grounds of The Marcell Ranger Station the station is located on a small ridge (1451 elevation) overlooking Rainier lake (EN37do). The headquarters Complex are Finnish-Style Log Buildings built in 1934/35 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The Buildings are listed the National Register of Historic Buildings. I work as a Volunteer at the Edge of the Wilderness Visitors Center.
The HF setup is Yaesu FT-950 I operate only CW on 80, 40 and 15 meters the antenna for HF is an OCF dipole. I work 10 meters and 6 meters both SSB and CW for 6 meters I have a M2 Yagi.
I just purchased a FT-817 with a 300Hz Filter to return to the QRP world. I am also using the FT-817 for some didital Modes
I have a DXCC mixed earned in 2011. A WAS Mixed, CW, and 40 Meters earned in 2009. I am actively chasing the FFMA with 385 Grids. My VUCC count is 400 grids verified on 6. I am active in CW contests
