HELLO: My name is Stephen C. "ERNIE" Ernst. My father,George "Ernie" Ernst, was licensed from 1932-1937 in Seattle, Washington as W7CJS and as W7CBK when portable. He allowed it to lapse for 21 years. I learned morse code by flashlight in the Boy Scouts. My high school had a radio club, so in November 1957, I took my "Novice" test, receiving the call KN2KSQ in Belmar, NJ (Monmouth County), 20 January 1958. I was 14 years old. Dad received K2TTF then we moved to Troy, Illinois (Madison County),where dad was K9PWN and I upgraded to general as K9QIG, moving again the next January to southern Missouri (Wright County), where he got K0UDP & I received K0UDQ. I had the highest score ever on the "Morse Code" test in Marine "Boot Camp" but was designated as a "Machine Gunner". My last assignment in the USMC was as "Amateur Radio Operator Marine Barracks, Guantanamo Bay,Cuba as KG4AM where I ran thousands of phone patches & messages to the U.S. between Jan 64 to 1 Apr 65. I was allowed to operate at other times also & took advantage of it, especially for contests. I still have all logs & blank QSL's for my operation there. One highlite of that tour was that I was second high score for DX stations, combining both cw & SSB for the 1964 ARRL DX Contest. I was discharged after Cuba. Six months later,I decided to go Air Force as "Ground Radio Operator", first in Panama City, Florida, then Ie Shima Island off Okinawa, operating as KR6IS (July 67-July 68) with the final month at Kadena MARS station Okinawa (KR6AF), running about 80 phone patches a day, mostly with Senator Barry Goldwater, who was an Air Force MARS member. I then went to Tactical Air Command headquarters at Langley AFB, Virginia, then was discharged 17 October 1969. From 11/15/69-11/15/71, I went to Brigham Young University, Provo,Utah, then went into the Navy as a "Radioman", Aug73-Aug80. I received this call in 1975 before spending 4 yrs in Japan (KA2SE) & retired 2 Oct 1992 (my oldest son's 17th birthday) w/25 years of Federal Service, including 10 years US Postal Service. I am now at: 355 Stevens Loop, Duncan, AZ 85534-8070. ON 16 FEB 2002, I came up on the air at my current location with 100 watts to an old 10-15-20 3 el yagi up only 29 ft, FIXED AT ENE DUE TO A BROKEN ROTATOR, & NOW ALSO HAVE A 10-40MTR GRND MNTD VERTICAL, A 10-160MTR COBRA TRIPLE FOLDED DOUBLET, & A 3 WIRE SINGLE FEED FAN DIPOLE FOR 40, 80 & 160 MTRS, WHICH I ALSO USE ON OTHER BNDS, ESPECIALLY THE WARC BNDS.

I worked all of the 3077 counties in the U.S., working my last county on 11-24-2002, but not getting them all confirmed and my USA-CA ALL COUNTIES #1065 until 4-16-2003, working them all 20 mtr, ssb, all mobiles. I THEN FINISHED WORKING MY MASTER COUNTY HUNTER "BINGO" AWARD ON 9-26-03, ALLOWING ME TO BEGIN TRACKING BOTH THE "BINGO 2" & "MASTERS GOLD" AWARD. AS OF TODAY, 22 JUNE2012, I HAVE FINISHED THE FIRST HALF OF THE "MASTERSGOLD", NEEDING ONLY TO FINISH THE 1500 POINTS TO COMPLETE THE AWARD. On June 1, 2005, my retirement pay was lowered 62% ($765.), so I may soon have to declare Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. I finally declared it on 17 Sep 2010.

ON 11-30-03, I RECEIVED MY "SECOND TIME" ALL COUNTIES AWARD, my "THIRD TIME" ALL COUNTIES 11-03-04, MY "FOURTH TIME" ALL COUNTIES 05-25-06, my "BINGO 2" on 3 May 2005, "BINGO 3"on 11-27-2006, "BINGO 4 ON 9-30-2011, "FIFTH TIME ALL COUNTIES on 5-24-2008, "SIXTH TIME ALL COUNTIES on7-26-2011. I also spend MANY hours per week using the computer, MAINLY ENTERING QSO'S INTO MY COUNTY HUNTER'S ELECTRONIC LOGGING PROGRAM (MARAC LOGGER-OVER 175,000 QSOS), AS I STILL HAVE OVER 100,000 QSO'S TO LOG. MY XYL "Diane", WHO is not licensed, has been collecting stamps since 1 MARCH 2001, BOTH U.S. & WORLD, & HAS INCREASESD HER COLLECTION FROM ONE ALBUM TO A DOZEN ALBUMS, ALWAYS LOOKING TO TRADE HER "DUPLICATES" FOR THOSE EXTRA STAMPS THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE LYING AROUND, EVEN THOSE ON ENVELOPES.

I have been a "County Hunter" off & on since 20 January 1958 but I have never achieved "all counties" until 2003 (45YRS & 3MOS TIME). I have put out 248 counties myself from my mobile and would like to put out all 3077 counties from the mobile. I have also worked DXCC from the mobile, running between 5-100 watts. However, I have not been mobile since October 1982. I SPEND ABT 90% OF MY AWAKE TIME AT MY "RADIO" TABLE, WHERE I ALSO HAVE MY COMPUTER & TV. I will answer letters, QSL request, and emails at scernst@vtc.net. Thanks for your patience in reading this far and for your consideration and memories. I belong to ARRL, QCWA, & OTC. I qualified for RCC in 1960, and my longest qso with just one other ham was for 7 & 1/2 hours from my station KA2SE in Japan, with YB7ACZ, a missionary about 5 miles north of the equator on the island of Borneo. I am also MARAC #R1154 and 10-X #21147, OMISS#5515 (MILITARY), and qualify for OOTC and am also a life member of the VFW. My father passed away 15 May 2000 at the age of 84 due to complications from diabetes. I now have "massive arthritis" ,,"high blood pressure" and "type 2 diabetes", now insulin dependent since 08-16-06. Very Respectfully, Stephen C. "Ernie" Ernst. 73's & 88's where appropriate!
