I was born in Ilwaco Washington where my family lived most of there life. I went to Ocean Park Grade school then on to Ilwaco High school where I graduated in 1969. I moved to Longview, Wash. in 1970 and worked at a paper mill. In 1970 I was drafted in the service and spent most of my time in Ft. Sill, Okla. In 1972 I was released after an 18 month stint, being giving a early out. I went back to work at the paper mill where I worked for 38 yrs upon retirement at 57 years. I became a ham in 1993 with the ecouragement from my dad Pete, W7CXE who had been a ham since 1956, who became a silent key on 11/19/08.. My first call I ever made after receiving my license was to my dad . .He is the one that gave me the phonetics of my call ( ULV ) as the "Ugly Little Varmit",,, as you can see from the picture above .....So I will always been known as the "Ugly Little Varmit".. I got my upgrade to General on 09/13/08. I have two HF rigs: a Yaesu Ft-450at, Kenwwod 570D (My dads radio ), back up with an Ameritron ALS-600, A Kenwood 700a(2 mtr), Yaesu Ft-620B (6 mtr), I am in a limited antenna area (due to the xyl lol) so all I have at this time is vertical antennaes. I also have 2 meter, 220, and 440 radios and also run a 900 mhz Johnson radio. In my spare time I umpire baseball and referee basketball to keep my self busy when not behind the radios. I have been officiating both sports since 1998. As you can see in the above pictures, my son umpires in the yakima, washington area while attending college. He also umpires with me also when he is on break from college. I QSL 100%.. I am trying to get a QSL card from all 50 states so your help will be appreciated... 73"s Doug The "Ugly Little Varmit Last modified: Tue Sep 22 17:42:37 2009 Does this page contain inappropriate content?
