Spending more time these days on hf am an active member of the local skywarn network, been a active ham for almost 20 years but have been around the hobby my entire life my late father who's call I now have was lic before I was born in the early 50s a ham for over 50 years, and I was sitting in front of a radio dial at a very young age but was too lazy to learn the code while i was younger. Enlisted in the US Marines in oct 1977 as a field radio operator still was not a lic ham guess was too busy burning up the air waves for uncle sam, got the ham bug and learned cw just prior to the first gulf war never too old to learn cw !! It was easy with time and practice and got my Novice call kc6ejd. shortly after upgraded to Teck. After returning from the gulf war went and took my General passed my 13 wpm with flying colors (solid copy) was very nervous new call for General n6xnq. Did not upgrade again till late 90,s to Extra old call n9myn and the rest is history fourtunately my father was still alive to see me as an Extra as he was and held a general radio telephone lic as well, He was retired ATT Microwave engr sadly he passed away very young from alzimers/dementia after a four year battle one year after his death in 2008 I applied for his call and it was granted to me. Im the only ham in my family of 6 other brothers and sisters. Im living in the home of my father and sit at his station of course it has been upgraded since his death and some times I feel that he is still hear listening to the air waves with me, Hope we had a good qso best 73 William..Sempher Fi 13 year marine vet..and member of disabled american vetrens life member.
