  Important club update 12/15/08

Dear Fellow Amateur,

The Hall of Science Amateur Radio Club- WB2JSM  is putting out an SOS ( save our station) call for your help. The Hall of Science Amateur Radio Club has been demonstrating amateur radio to the visiting public for over 35 years as an independent exhibit at the New York Hall of Science Children's Museum located in Queens, New York. The museum is undergoing a major renovation project and wants us out for good. We have started a petition which we want you to sign and circulate for us in order to help preserve a great ham radio asset by showing officials at the museum that you value what we do. Please visit http://tinyurl.com/hosarc to read more about our plight and sign our petition. We have logged over 10,000 contacts from the station and even if you're not in our log your help will let us continue to talk up amateur radio and create the next generation of ham radio operators.

Respectfully Submitted
Tom  Golero KC2CBA
Club Liaison Officer

If you may know of other means to support our mission to keep amateur radio in the Hall of Science Museum, don't be shy, drop VP/President-Elect Tom Tumino - N2YTF an email using his callsign at arrl dot net.

HOSARC is a very active club which operates out of The Hall of Science Museum as an independent exhibit. The club's main mission is to demonstrate amateur radio to the thousands of visitors who pass through the museum each year. Most of our visitors are young children and we are their first exposure to amateur radio. The club is a designated a 501(c)(3) corporation and we are always looking for donations of equipment and funds to continue our mission of demonstrating amateur radio to the public and hopefully forming the next generation of ham radio operators. Please contact Steve Greenbaum WB2KDG at sgreenbaum1@nyc.rr.com for any questions concerning donations and for tax deduction information. The Hall of Science Museum is located in Flushing Meadows Park Corona Park, Queens ,New York and is one of the few remaining buildings from 1964-65 Worlds Fair. Please visit www.nywf64.com/ for a great view of the fair and the park and www.nyhallsci.org/ to plan a visit to this leading hands on science museum.

HOSARC is the only club in New York City to host two hamfest each year. Please visit the club web site for lastest information on hamfests dates as well as for vistor and vendor information. We also provide free licensing classes and VE sessions and through the years we have licensed hundreds of amateurs. When the code requirement was removed we held the largest VE session in the tri-state area! Please contact Rob Smith AB2UV at freeclasses@ab2uv.com for information about upcoming classes.

We are an ARRL affiliated club that has been active since 1973 .This year we are proud to mark our 35th anniversary as a club. If you worked us during our special event station on March 22 & March 23, 2008- please send us an 8.5 X 11 SASE envelope for a certificate or a regular SASE for a qsl card .Please include proper postage on all your correspondences with us to ensure a proper and timely response back by us. . The club participates in most major contests as well as field day and at times will operate remote or as guest operators at other stations such as K1TTT. So if you work us we may not always be at home but always use our address listed above. At present we have activated two islands in the USI awards program: Columbia Island NY038 and Calf island CTO27, and our normal operating location is on Long Island NY026.Please visit the link provided to learn about this really fun and interesting program at www.usislands.org/

If you are planning a visit to NYC and want to visit our station please send us an email at least a week in advance and we will arrange for a control op to be on duty. Who knows maybe we can get you into to the museum as our guests as well.
