Radio is my oldest hobby interest, dating back to the 1960s. I was first licensed in 1973 and have kept my original call. During most of this time, I worked 2m fm and still do a fair amount of it, participating with a good group of local hams in the ARES activities and Wild Horse Desert Hams radio club. My primary rigs at present is an IC706mkiig and an IC735. On HF, I have been using a 14avq vertical and a g5rv antenna. I'm using a home-made moxon 6 meter antenna and a homemade copper j-pole for 2 meters.Currently, I'm in the design and planning phase for some other antennas, including a small portable HF cubical quad and a 160 meter loop skywire. I normally do ssb and prefer the higher hf bands - whatever is open but I doubt that there is any facet of amateur radio which doesn't interest me.

Professionally, I do electronic design, primarily in industrial microprocessor applications and have done so for many years. I have been married to my wife Pat, now licensed as kd5txd, for many years. We live in the Wild Horse Desert of southern Texas with our qth being located in 40 acres of native Texas brush, about 7 miles from the nearest town.
