Click for more detail... Been involved in radio since early 80's, in my home town of Liverpool. I was first licensed as G1FJT quickly followed by my UK class A call, G0AHH. Spent most of my time on the lower frequency bands on CW with the RNARS. Went on to train as a marine radio officer before working on the liner QE2 for a short while, before moving over to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (Royal Navy Fleet Support vessels). After having a taste of life at sea, I swallowed the anchor, got married, and moved ashore to spend a few years lecturing in radio and electronics before the lure of industry saw me move into radio engineering/tech work. Unfortunately, amateur radio took a back seat during these lean years and I let my UK license lapse, ,although I was still mixing with the local RNARS crowd and paying the occasional visit to GB2PLY, HMS Plymouth which was berthed as a museum ship. Moved to New Zealand in 2007 to start a new life with my wife and 2 children and moved to the Waikato region and the beautiful little town of Cambridge, the "town of trees and champions" A little bit about the town is on the link below. http://www.cambridge.co.nz/
I found myself getting lured to the ham bands again, so I took the plunge and got my current callsign which I am looking forward to working with. I am using QRP equipment at the moment and only have a 7MHz vertical and V/UHF for mobile. My pic at the top shows my QTH through some of my trees, and my little operating area is on the covered deck where I sit with my cup of coffee or tea, listening to the bird life as well as the radio :) Amateur radio with a difference!
