Click for more detail... I was born in 1950 in Dublin. Through my Dad I became a SWL mainly of broadcast stations. Aged 13 I got my first Electronics Constructors Kit and from then was hooked on homebrew. My first real project was a regenerative RX called a HAC (Hear All Continents). When I started working I bought a Yaesu Musen FRG-7. I got hooked on CB radio in the late 1970s and eventually bought an FT-101ZD using it on CB. In 1979 I began studying for my class B (vhf and uhf)licence. I was issued with EI6AEB in 1980. During that year, I studied for the 12 wpm Morse test and having passed, was issued with my present call EI5EM. From that date I became more interested in CW ,QRP and homebrew. I have maintained that interest to date. I have built all the gear in my shack. The latest projects were the Elecraft K2 and KX1. I have an IC706MKIIG installed in my car. My next project is a two-valve all band xtal transmitter. ham radio is a hobby that I really enjoy. My other main interest is tennis, although of late I have been suffering from disc problems. I hope this will not curtail my tennis. However, even if it does, I have amateur radio to fall back on. Lately I have taken to writing articles for some amateur radio periodicals. So watch out for that. I usually prefer the Gaelic for my name and am Tony Breathnach (pronounced BRANNOK), or Tony Walsh in English.
