I first became a ham in 1957. College kept me too busy to operate, so my license expired. I got back into ham radio in 1997. My thing is 100% scratch built equipment. I buy nothing manufactured for ham radio except log books. As the years go by, my station gradually improves. It now covers 80 m through 10 m on CW. I'm on SSB (&AM) on 80, 20, 15 & 12.

My rig is based mostly on the 1986 ARRL handbook. Modern designs in today's QEX and Handbooks are usually full of mysterious ICs. In my opinion, they don't qualify as homebrewing. My station will never reach the level of modern commercial equipment, but for me it's lots more fun. If you wish to swap ideas about scratch-building or need help getting started, please write or e-mail. 100% homebrew stations are extremely rare. Let's change that!
