Hello from Salina, Kansas. First of all, I go by Dale :-).. who is this Larry guy anyway? My interest in radio began in 1974 when I took some elective broadcast courses at Appalachian State University located in Boone, N.C, my hometown. And if you took a course, you were usually drafted into working a few hours at the college FM station which I of course, agreed to do, getting my first experience at running a board, reading the weather and some news copy. Although an industrial arts major, I felt compelled upon graduating in 1974 to apply at the local AM radio station, WATA, for employment. Upon auditioning, I recall the station manager saying something to the program manager to the effect well, he does have some potential and I was hired. After a 6 year stint there, I left the station and N.C. in 1980 for Indiana. I then found employment in the printing industry but always kept a place in my heart for all things radio. In '80 I received as a Christmas gift my first scanner, a Bearcat 210XL. I was the casual home listener for the next 10 years to rural local fire, police and road crew comms. Then in 1990 I made the leap to the Radio Shack Pro 2006... more freqs, outside discones and I thought I had arrived! Then around '95 or so, I became interested in the HF amateur radio world and bought an Icom R71A, my first real radio. By the late 90's I spent many hours spinning the knob on the Icom for relaxation and enjoyment. I was aware there were amateur radio licenses that you could test for but wasn't in a big hurry. After all, it took an amount of dedication, study and discipline. I finally, however, realized I needed to join the ranks and get a license. I did that in 2002. Today I participate in the the local 2 meter and 70cm weekly net. I'm a member of the Central Kansas Amateur Radio Club. Equipment is a Yaesu FT-857D, LDG AT100Pro and Alpha Delta DX CC dipole. Active mostly on 80/40/20 meters. ..Happy Motoring! Dale Last modified: Sat Jan 23 10:22:44 2010 Does this page contain inappropriate content? If so, Report this page... |
