I was first licensed in 1977 as Novice WD0CWV in central Iowa. Upgrades to General and Extra (with new call AI0Z) followed. I was pretty active in Iowa for many years, earning WAS, WAS (cw), WAC and DXCC. After getting fed up with poor behavior on DX pileups, I changed focus to satellites and was active in Oscars 8 and 10.
While I was in Iowa, my career was as an analytical mass spectrometrist working on enviornmental water and air pollution research. In 1989, I made a career move to CT to work for Pfizer as a bioanalytical chemist, and retired from Pfizer in 2008.
During most of my time in CT, I was focused on the job, so other than being the sysop for the local packet BBS, I was pretty inactive. Lately, I changed to a "1"-land call (N1XK) and have gradually increased my activity. Recently, I finished off the ARRL Triple Play Award using Logbook of the World.
