Jeff Steinkamp, N7YG, first licensed on Dec 24, 1981 as KA5MYF while living in Lubbock, Texas Journeyed to Dallas twice, once for the general in the summer of 1982 and Advanced in Jan 1983. In June of 1983, the USAF sent me to Iceland where I was able to operate as KD5YG/TF for a year during the low of a sunspot cycle. Upon my return to the states and 18 months later, I was alerted to a short notice assignment to Korea. Spent a year as HL9YG and provided technical assistance to the KARL during the Asian Games in 1988. After returning back to the states again, my ham radio career was sideline a bit due to living in an apartment with a no antenna clause. In 1994 I was alerted for my last military assignment in Japan and was licensed as 7J1AUO. As a member of a C-130 aircrew, I spent quite a bit of time off the island of Japan and was afforded the opportunity to operate in a number of the Pacific Rim countries to include a few stints on Wake IS, Johnston IS, Kwajalein IS, Marshall IS, Guam, Saipan, Samoa, and Diego Garcia. I am currently developing a couple of amateur radios related software programs that can be found on my web site. I am also a member of 10-10 and spend quite a bit of time on 10 meters trying to prove the propagation talking head are blowing smoke.
