The International Boy Scouts, Troop 1 will air the special call 8J1IBS from
October 19, 2007 until December 31, 2008 to commemorate the Troop's 90th
Anniversary and the 100th Anniversary of World Scouting.
The Troop was formed in 1918. As the members of the Troop came primarily from
the international school those wising to join came from many parts of the
world. Under rules then in effect Troops could consist only of single
nationalities. The dilemma was addressed to B-P and, after formation of the
World Scout Bureau, the Troop was chartered directly by the Bureau creating the
world's first "International" scout group. The Charter, signed
personally by B-P, reads:
This is to certify that... "is duly registered with the Boy Scout
International Bureau、London, and is authorised to accept and enroll
scouts of mixed nationalities."
For the International Committee signed Robert Baden Powell
Over the years Scouts of nearly 50 nationalities have experienced scouting as
members of the International Boy Scouts, Troop 1.
