"G7LPW/Marine Mobile" From: The Leeds to Liverpool Canal
Profile
I mainly operate as "G7LPW/MM" (Marine Mobile) from my canal boat on the Leeds to Liverpool canal which is moored in the village of Burscough. My boat co-ordinates are: 53deg 36' 09.86N 2deg 51' 22.83W. I also enjoy HF pedestrian mobile usually operating from coastal locations. Boat Station
I operate a Kenwood TS570DGE on most HF bands into a home-made centre loaded vertical antenna mounted on the boat roof. Pedestrian Mobile
I operate "HF Backpack Pedestrian Mobile" using an Alinco DX70-TH into a home made top loaded vertical which is 3.5 metres long. The power is 50 Watts high or 5-10 Watts on low depending on the battery voltage. I mainly operate from near to the coast, close to where I live.
News: G4AKC and I will be giving a talk about HF "bicycle and pedestrian" mobile on 12th October 2009 at the Bolton Wireless Club and on the 17th November 2009 at the Stockport Radio society. World Record
During November 2007, I made a DX-pedition to Christchurch in New Zealand using the callsign: G7LPW/ZL3/Pedestrian Mobile to try to make a "New World Record" operating: HF "Backpack" to "Backpack" and "Backpack to Bicycle" mobile on 20M SSB between New Zealand and the UK using power levels between 5W and 50W. After lots of development and forward planning with Dave G4AKC we achieved this record on the 15th November 2007 at 08:00z by contacting Dave, G4AKC who was both pedestrian mobile and bicycle mobile, whilst I was in Christchurch and Dave was in Blackpool England over a longpath distance of about 21,000Km with excellent signals both ways. This record has been confirmed by the "World records academy"
Here ia an extract from the World Records Academy listing ........ "It was absolutely brilliant, it was such good contact. We chose New Zealand because it's the furthest point away from the UK."
