Biography Info:

The good looking guy on the left is my best friend. He is also my son, Jody - K5JDY. I'm the old goat.

"WELDON" is my Name, Rag-chew and Homebrew is my "Game"; born and raised in Big Spring, TX, married a home town girl. We celebrated our 56th in June 2007. My first career was the lumber business (13 years), with a tour of duty in Uncle Sam's Army in the Korean War during that time frame.

I was first licensed as KN5POK Mar1958 and upgraded to Conditional K5POK Sep1958, Advanced Class Dec1994 and Extra Class Jun2000.

I got my Radiotelephone Operator License in 1965 and finally got the opportunity to join Collins Radio in Dallas, TX in 1967 in their Commercial Microwave Radio Division. Helped build MW systems for such as: MCI, Sprint, USCG, FAA, CPI Microwave, AT&T and many of the "Baby BELL" systems all over the United States.

I started my own business in 1976, "SIGNAL Services, Inc", contracting Microwave Radio installation and engineering services to many of the companies already mentioned, as well as the equipment manufacturers: Rockwell, NEC and Alcatel. After 23 years of successfull business, I retired in 2002 to the position of "Domestic Asst.Manager"; also, to have more time to devote to Amateur Radio.

I enjoy designing and building much of my equipment needs and would rather operate something I put together than something new and off the shelf. I like the sweaty palms of turning something on for the first time and then getting good signal reports out of it. My big thrill is getting as good and sometimes better signal reports as my peers with their expensive store bought stuff. hi hi Most of my on-air operation is SSB; rag-chewing on 75M and 40M, but lately I am having fun with the Digital Modes on 20M and 40M. I do not chase DX, or work Contests, or chase Awards; and have not exchanged QSLs for 30 years. Sorry about that! I'm just an old fuddy-duddy in that department. hi hi
