Click for more detail... Always enjoyed radio from early age. Built my first O'scope (Heath) by age 11. But somehow managed to put off getting my license for about forty years. Enjoy all modes. Not so interested in the ones that have wires attached, though (IRLP, etc.). Prefer HF and SOMEDAY will get my CW above 5 WPM. Most fun contacts were on my FT-101EE using a 16-1/2foot 3/4" galvanized water pipe bolted to a 12' 2x4 leaning against the house. most didn't seem to believe me ;-) Now run mostly on FT-897D with homebrew 20/80M dipole and a Challanger DX-8 vertical. Occasionally on the Kenwood TS-140 w/ longwire (134') given to me by my father-in-law, W9HCN, who also gave me subtle hints I should get my ticket, by providing books like "Technician for Dummies" and "CW in 10 days or less" and a few others.
