I decided to get my license after helping my ham-radio husband at Mile 12 at
the NYC Marathon, being exposed to NYC-ARES activities and after making good
friends at some of the Amateur Radio clubs we participate in.
I am a member of Kings County Radio Club and recently served two terms as Vice
President. I am also a member of the Long Island Mobile Amateur Radio Club
(LIMARC) and Nassau County Police Amateur Radio Club. As an Auxiliary Police
Officer in Long Beach, NY, I qualified for full membership.
I have participated in the NYC Marathon for the last few years. I am one of the
Ham Radio Precursors (the other being my husband Rob KB2PSM).
My jump into Amateur Radio was the focus of the QST Column "YL News"
in the December 1998 issue.
In early January 2003, I gave birth to our first child. Julianne has already
been made an honorary member of the Kings County Radio Club and has her own
membership card. I would not be surprised to find her sitting on her daddy's
lap in the shack and working some rare DX and local ragchews. Maybe a license
is in her future too!
On Spetember 24, 2005 our second child, Noah was born. Perhaps he will be as
eager as Julianne to get in front of a microphone.
